It’s important to know the basics before reaching out. This will help save you the time & effort of speaking to so many artists. Take a minute to look into their website… here you can find their portfolio, information about services, and, often times, prices.
Tip: Instagram is the best way to see their most recent work!
02. Make sure your MUA’s work speaks to your own personal style
This step may require some self-assessment, but it’s important in ensuring your happiness with the look you’ll create together! What kind of makeup style are you looking for on your wedding day? Something glam? Maybe something more natural? How about airbrush? While we don’t expect you to know exactly what you want, and, of course, it is our job to help you, it is important to have a general idea and make sure the MUA you’re inquiring with offers this kind of service.
Tip: If you need a little help getting started, Pinterest is always a good tool!
03. Don’t get tempted to do your own makeup or let a friend do it
Trust me, I say this from knowledge… your wedding day isn’t the day you want to be fussing with your eyeliner! Wedding mornings can be a busy time, and suddenly your hand may not feel as steady with all the nerves you’ll be dealing with or, maybe in the rush of the morning, you forgot your makeup bag! You may also have friends offering to let them help you out, but if they’re not a MUA, you may want to leave it to the pro! Skip the stress & know you’re in good hands with a professional! PLUS the feeling of being primped and treated like a queen the morning of is always a fun part of a wedding day!
04. Reach out ASAP
Even before the pandemic, most brides were trending to book their wedding vendors about 1+ year out. After Coronavirus, it became even more apparent that this would become the normal! So, the truth is.. you can never inquire too early! As I always say, the saying, “the early bird gets the worm” is true in the wedding biz as well! Once your venue is booked, it’s game on… reach out to the vendors you’ve had your eye on ASAP to ensure they have availability for you! You don’t want to miss out on working with your dream vendor just simply because you waited too long.
05. Don’t book on price alone
Shopping around is part of the process! Look, from all of us wedding vendors… we get it and there is totally no shame in that! It’s common to have a budget & staying mindful of that is important. However, I think I should take a minute to note that you don’t want to book your MUA (or any vendor!) on price alone. There is so much that goes into this, and, as I said above, trusting your vendors is super important and you’ll be thankful for your own research AND their professionalism on your wedding day.
06. Know their vibe
On your wedding day, you’ll be spending a good amount of time with your Glam Team! It’s important that you vibe with their personality & demeanor. I, personally, schedule a call with each of my brides for this reason. On that initial call, we get to chat about their wedding vision, but it also gives them a chance to get to know me and what I’m about!
Tip: I think talking on the phone or face-to-face is a very important step in the process and recommend making sure you have that with all of your wedding vendors.
